Twelve years ago, I traveled around Japan with some friends. 18 months after that, I returned for about a week for work and found that I was still enamored by this land rich in history, possessed of a spiritual and cultural awareness that sits comfortably beside its technological advancement. A decade later, I find myself pining for the day I can return. One of the things that stood out on both trips was the Japanese’s commitment to detail. Precision permeates their fashion sense, technology, how they address each other, and hence language.

All parents, at least the non-sociopathic ones, have two things in common when it comes to their kids; the desire to see their children happy while being the best they can be. This article is about helping your child achieve the latter goal while protecting the former. Immigrant parents are no different but they face a journey unique to them as strangers trying to achieve the best for themselves in a strange land while raising the next generation.

On what would otherwise be a drab Sunday afternoon, a Project Manager, a Publicist, and a Writer fell into a discussion around the nature of protests.

Their professions are significant here because that was the lens through which one of the more interesting observations was made. One of them, I’m guessing it was the PM, insisted protests would achieve more if a scope, timeline, and ratio of financial & human cost to the desired outcome were considered from the outset. Our PR guru’s contribution was intermittent Tourette-like outbursts; “Stay on brand!” to buttress the PM’s point.
